The Atomic Cafe/ English 387

Hey everyone! Since this is my first real blog i thought i'd introduce myself. My name is Luckson Delvois but you can call me Lucky for short. I sit in the front corner of the left side of the room all the time and i am the only boy with afro-curls in my hair so you can't miss me. I was born and raised in brooklyn, new york on the 2nd of February, 1992. I am pretty much just an average teenage but enough about me it's time to discuss the subjects at hand.

First and foremost I would like to say that i love this english class. Everything is just pretty much laid backed and chilled. Ms. McRae isn't one of those nagging teaches that talk on and on. In fact, the class speaks more than she does. I love how on tuesays we just sit back and watch educational films  and read passages revelant to class then on thursday we have full class discussions that overview the week. Also, i love the fact that we don't have to spend any money on books!

So on  tuesday th class watched, The Atomic Cafe. The Atomic Cafe was a documentary filmed in the 1900's meant to showcase the paranoia in America  during the cold war. I expected the film to be boring but it was rather funny and interesting. The film drew emotions out of me. At first I was saddened by the mass destruction inflicted on the Japanese cities caused by the atomic bomb; many civilians were killed. I guess the U.S had no choice; either you kill or be killed. Eventually the U.S became terrified to find out that the Russians had also developed a nuclear bomto b and many Americans were accused of being Russian spies. Word of a nuclear war soon spread out, thus, all of America started to panic and of course  civilians had to turn to the government. It was funny to see how ignorant  and stupid Americans were for believing that one would be saved from an atomic blast by simply ducking and covering or even worse, having a clean home. When giving the circumstances more thought, i realized that the Amerians had no choice but to believe what they were told. They knew that there wasn't anything that could possibly save them from an atomic blast but the best way to cope was to not panic.

Going further in the movie and reading the passage it ws evident that Americans went to any extremeto protect themselves. Families began putting bomb proof suits on their children, families began to paint their homes white, and families started to move to the suburbs. It was said that families in the suburbs would have a better chance of surival because popular cities wold be main targets. Anyone else left in the cities would of just died. I just thank god that i wasn't bornduring that time and i know that Americans are crazy but they were way crazier back then.
